Overview
- The adult female, named Dhaval Lakshmi, was fitted with a satellite transmitter and released off Dahanu on November 20.
- The operation was led by the Dahanu Forest Division and the Maharashtra Mangrove Cell with support from the Wildlife Institute of India.
- Fishermen had rescued her from a net on August 10, after which she was treated and rehabilitated at the Dahanu Turtle Treatment Centre.
- Officials say this is Palghar’s first satellite-tagged Olive Ridley and the eighth along Maharashtra’s coastline.
- Researchers will use the tag to track movements and post-rehabilitation behavior, while three more turtles carrying flipper tags were released the same day.
