Regulator Imposes Education and Mentoring Conditions on GP in Patterson Case

Regulators opted for education-focused conditions rather than suspension for the Leongatha GP.

Overview

  • Ahpra and the Medical Board placed formal conditions on Dr Chris Webster’s registration on Wednesday, posting them to the public register.
  • Webster must complete at least eight hours of one‑on‑one education on professionalism, ethics, communication, privacy and confidentiality, with completion due within six months.
  • He is also required to undertake a mentoring program of at least five one‑hour monthly sessions focused on confidentiality, professional communication and ethical obligations, to be finished within a year.
  • No suspension or public reprimand was issued, and his registration remains active under the listed conditions.
  • The action follows numerous complaints about derogatory comments he made after Erin Patterson’s conviction; Webster says he stands by his remarks, will accept the conditions and expects the mentoring time to reduce his availability to patients in a doctor‑short region.
