Regional Book Fairs in Argentina and Mexico Open With Strong Turnout and Public Backing

Public organizers deploy free, multi-day programs to bolster reading, sustain local publishers, spur sales.

Overview

  • Santiago del Estero launched its 15th provincial fair at the Centro de Convenciones Fórum under the motto “Identidad escrita, cultura viva,” running through Sunday with free entry and organization alongside Fundación El Libro.
  • Morelia’s fourth Feria Internacional del Libro y la Lectura opened September 26 to October 5 in the plazas de Armas and Benito Juárez, with Portugal as guest country and more than 190 scheduled activities.
  • SeCultura in Morelia is presenting publications it supported over the past year and promoting local writing programs, including creative seminars and women-led anthologies.
  • Mendoza’s Feria del Libro is underway at Espacio Cultural Julio Le Parc through October 5 with 250 book presentations, 21 workshops and 50 stands, and it pays tribute to late comics artist Juan Giménez.
  • Booksellers in Mendoza reported stronger-than-expected opening-day sales and heavy attendance, and organizers expect more than 140,000 visitors as programming expands to departments such as San Martín and San Rafael.
