Overview
- Smith was officially inducted at Dodger Stadium on Saturday, Aug. 15, 2026, in a pregame Legends of Dodger Baseball ceremony attended by former teammates, owner representatives and club officials.
- His induction celebrated the two standout seasons of 1977–78, when he finished fourth in NL MVP voting twice and posted elite offensive numbers that rank him among the Dodgers’ top hitters historically.
- The ceremony completed recognition of the 1977 quartet that each hit 30 or more homers, and Smith used his speech to publicly press the Dodgers to also induct Davey Lopes and Bill Russell.
- Smith has re-engaged with the club in recent years as an informal adviser to Dave Roberts and continues to run the Reggie Smith Baseball Academy in Encino, reflecting his long postplaying coaching and community work.
- The Legends of Dodger Baseball program, started in 2019 to honor notable non–Hall of Famers, has been used to restore recognition to contributors from the 1976–81 teams and the timing highlights efforts to honor aging or recently deceased players.
