Overview
- Brandon Dodd won Illtyd ward in Barry by 72 votes, securing Reform UK its first seat on the Vale of Glamorgan Council as Labour fell to fourth.
- The council now stands at 24 Labour, 13 Conservatives, eight Plaid Cymru, four Llantwit First Independent, four independents and one Reform councillor.
- Nigel Farage named Llŷr Powell as Reform’s candidate for the Caerphilly Senedd by-election on October 23, called following MS Hefin David’s death with the cause unascertained pending toxicology results.
- Labour has selected Richard Tunnicliffe, Plaid Cymru has chosen former council leader Lindsay Whittle and the Conservatives have put forward Gareth Potter, as Caerphilly’s Labour council leader Sean Morgan quit the party and said he will vote Plaid.
- Reform has yet to appoint a formal Wales leader and currently holds one Senedd member after Laura Anne Jones defected from the Conservatives in July.
