Reds Sign Frankie Montas to One-Year Contract

The Cincinnati Reds bolster their pitching staff with the addition of Montas, aiming to contend for the postseason.

Frankie Montas, a right-handed pitcher, has agreed to a one-year, $16 million contract with the Cincinnati Reds.
Montas, who turns 31 in March, is coming off a difficult 2023 season with the Yankees, largely due to a right shoulder injury that required surgery.
Despite his recent struggles, Montas had a breakout 2021 season with the Oakland A's, earning a sixth-place finish in AL Cy Young voting.
The Reds were previously in talks with free agents Sonny Gray and Wade Miley, and had interest in Rays starter Tyler Glasnow, but missed out on all three.
The acquisition of Montas, along with infielder Jeimer Candelario, is part of the Reds' efforts to strengthen their team and contend for the postseason.
