Reddit Surpasses X as UK’s Fifth Most Popular Social Media Platform

Ofcom's latest report highlights Reddit's rapid growth and X's user decline, reflecting broader shifts in UK digital habits.

Reddit saw a 47% year-on-year increase in UK adult users, reaching 22.9 million in May 2024, overtaking X in popularity for the first time.
X's UK user base declined by 8% from May 2023 to May 2024, with 22.1 million adults accessing the platform during that month, continuing a multi-year downward trend.
The Ofcom report identifies Reddit as the fastest-growing major social media platform in the UK, now ranking as the fifth most popular overall behind YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok.
Meta's Threads and Bluesky, two alternative platforms, have also gained users, with Threads reaching 5.3 million UK adults and Bluesky seeing a 263% rise in its user base in recent months.
The report also notes broader digital trends, including women spending more time online than men, and generative AI tools like ChatGPT being used by younger demographics but facing skepticism among older users.
