Overview

  • Delvecchio died peacefully at his Rochester, Michigan home on July 1 surrounded by loved ones, and no cause of death has been disclosed.
  • He recorded 1,325 points in 1,671 regular-season and playoff games during his career with the Detroit Red Wings from 1951 to 1973.
  • As a key member of Detroit’s 1950s dynasty alongside Gordie Howe, he helped secure Stanley Cup titles in 1952, 1954 and 1955 while winning three Lady Byng trophies and earning two All-Star selections.
  • In the 1970s he served multiple stints as the Red Wings’ head coach and general manager, guiding the franchise through challenging periods.
  • Inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1977 and later named one of the NHL’s 100 greatest players, he was honored with a retired No. 10 jersey and a statue outside Little Caesars Arena.
