Red Wings acquire veteran defenseman Petry from Canadiens

Petry was traded from Montreal to Detroit in exchange for Gustav Lindstrom and a conditional draft pick.
Montreal retained 50% of Petry's $4.8 million salary in the trade.
This is Petry's third trade in the past 13 months after spending most of his career with Montreal.
Lindstrom, a 2017 second-round pick, adds depth to Detroit's defense.
The conditional fourth-round pick going to Detroit will be the later of Montreal's two 2025 selections.
