Red Sox Trade Prospect to Yankees for Catcher Carlos Narváez

Boston makes a rare deal with its AL East rival after acquiring All-Star pitcher Garret Crochet earlier in the day.

  • The Boston Red Sox acquired 26-year-old Venezuelan catcher Carlos Narváez from the New York Yankees in exchange for pitching prospect Elmer Rodriguez-Cruz and international signing bonus pool money.
  • Narváez made his MLB debut in 2024, playing six games for the Yankees, and hit .254 with 11 home runs in 96 games at Triple-A this season.
  • Rodriguez-Cruz, Boston's No. 13-ranked prospect, posted a 2.91 ERA across Single-A and High-A this year and has a career 2.60 ERA in the minors.
  • The trade follows Boston's earlier move to send top catching prospect Kyle Teel and three others to the Chicago White Sox for All-Star left-handed pitcher Garret Crochet.
  • To make room for Narváez on the 40-man roster, Boston designated infielder/outfielder Enmanuel Valdez, who hit .214 in 76 MLB games this season, for assignment.
