Overview

  • The team announced the move Friday, making the 31-year-old right-hander a free agent who would be postseason-eligible for a new club if signed before Sept. 1.
  • Buehler posted a 5.45 ERA with 55 walks over 112.1 innings in 23 appearances, was moved to the bullpen last week, and allowed two runs in 2.1 relief innings on Aug. 24 at Yankee Stadium.
  • He joined Boston on a one-year, $21.05 million guaranteed deal with incentives after his 2024 playoff run, but never found consistency following early-season shoulder inflammation.
  • As the corresponding move, Boston selected Tolle’s contract from Triple-A Worcester; MLB Pipeline ranks the left-hander as the organization’s No. 2 prospect and he is slated to debut Friday against Pittsburgh.
