Overview

  • NYC Parks discovered a broken drain pipe in the century-old Red Hook Pool days before the summer opening, forcing its closure since late June.
  • Repair crews required special-order parts, which extended the outage by nearly eight weeks and delayed a mid-July reopening target.
  • The pool will reopen at 11 a.m. Sunday, restoring local access for under one month before the outdoor swimming season ends on Sept. 7.
  • During the closure, parks officials directed residents to nearby pools in Gowanus and Sunset Park and maintained limited splash pad operations at Red Hook.
  • Separately, NYC Parks is in the design phase of a $122 million renovation project for the Red Hook Pool and Recreation Center, with construction set to begin in 2028.
