Red Fort Car Blast Linked to Faridabad Explosives Cache as Investigators Name Doctor Suspect

Forensic identification of ANFO is guiding a sweep for a doctor-led module.

Overview

  • Nine people were killed and more than 20 injured when a Hyundai i20 exploded near the Red Fort on Monday evening.
  • Investigators identified Dr Umar Un Nabi, a Faridabad-based physician from Pulwama, as a key operative believed to have been in the car and to have moved explosive material from his rented room to Delhi.
  • Police recovered roughly 2,500–2,900 kg of explosive and inflammable material in Faridabad’s Dhauj and Fatehpur Taga, and linked the haul to the blast.
  • Forensic teams confirmed the use of ANFO in the rush-hour detonation, as CCTV showed the car parked near the site for nearly three hours before the explosion.
  • Arrests include Dr Muzammil Shakil and Dr Adeel Ahmad Rather, with Dr Umar’s relatives detained for questioning, as over 800 personnel conduct combing operations and agencies probe possible sleeper cells.
