Overview
- Uttar Pradesh ATS, the NIA and Delhi Police picked up Dr Mohammad Arif in Kanpur and Dr Farooq in Hapur, taking both to Delhi for questioning in the Delhi blast case.
- So far, agencies have arrested or detained five doctors from UP in the probe: Dr Adeel Ahmad Rather, Dr Shaheen Saeed, Dr Parvez Ansari, Dr Farooq and Dr Mohammad Arif.
- Officials say preliminary enquiries indicate contacts between some detained doctors and suspects tied to a Faridabad module, including links surfaced during the interrogation of explosives accused Muzammil Shakeel Ganaie.
- Dr Arif, a senior resident in cardiology at GSVM Medical College and a native of Anantnag, was picked up from his Kanpur rental as investigators seized devices and examined tenancy records.
- Dr Farooq, a gynaecologist and assistant professor at GS Medical College, Hapur, was taken from campus after college officials confirmed a police visit, while separate forensic teams in Delhi recovered a body part near the blast site that killed 12 people.
