Red Cross Poll Finds Most UK Adults Hopeful as ‘Hope Street’ Exhibit Opens in London

Most respondents say their outlook improves when they witness communities rebuild or volunteers at work.

  • A British Red Cross–commissioned survey of 2,000 UK adults reports that 70% feel hopeful about their personal future despite concerns over international conflicts and climate change.
  • Ninety-five percent say they feel more optimistic when they see communities recover from crises, while 53% feel encouraged by communities pulling together and by emergency workers and volunteers in action.
  • The charity has opened Hope Street at Malaysia Square, Battersea Power Station, a free interactive experience developed with People’s Postcode Lottery and running Oct 22–23.
  • Adults aged 25–34 are the most hopeful, and in London 79% feel optimistic, with acts of kindness, advances in medicine and science, and community support cited as top lifts.
  • The exhibit showcases first-hand recovery stories, including a Red Cross clinic nurse from rural Eswatini describing daily resilience in her community.
