Red Cross Aid Convoy Under Fire in Gaza Amid Escalated Conflict; Humanitarian Crisis Deteriorates
Convoy of five trucks carrying urgent medical supplies targeted in Gaza City; two vehicles damaged and driver injured, amid ongoing war with mounting death toll and displaced populations.
- The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) convoy, carrying urgent medical supplies, was attacked in Gaza City, damaging two trucks and lightly injuring a driver.
- The convoy, initially destined for Al-Quds Hospital, had to alter its route due to the fire and redirected the medical supplies to Al-Shifa Hospital.
- Consequent to the attack, the ICRC convoy also escorted six ambulances with critical patients to the Rafah crossing bordering Egypt.
- "These are not the conditions under which humanitarian personnel can work," William Schomburg, the head of the ICRC delegation in Gaza, emphasized the breach of international humanitarian laws.
- The ongoing conflict has led to a dire humanitarian crisis with an estimated 10,000 Palestinians killed, 240 captives taken, and severe population displacement causing a strain on health services.
