Overview

  • India Meteorological Department issued a red alert for Mumbai and other districts, with 24-hour totals above 200 mm at many stations and Vikhroli highest at 255.5 mm, and forecasts of very heavy rain with gusts near 45–55 km/h.
  • BMC shut schools, colleges and government/semi-government offices and urged private workplaces to enable work from home, while senior colleges across the Konkan belt were also closed.
  • Rail services were heavily disrupted, including suspension on the Harbour Line between CSMT and Kurla at points and broader delays on Central and Western routes, as road traffic slowed and BEST buses were diverted by flooding.
  • Airport operations faced widespread delays and at least eight flight diversions to Surat, Ahmedabad and Hyderabad, with airlines issuing advisories to check schedules and allow extra travel time.
  • Rising to about 3.9 metres, the Mithi river prompted the relocation of roughly 350 residents from Kurla’s Kranti Nagar and deployment of NDRF teams, while officials reported at least six rain-related deaths across Maharashtra in recent days.
