Red Alert for Noida and Ghaziabad as Rains Flood Delhi-NCR, Snarl Traffic and Delay Metro, Flights

IMD expects intermittent heavy spells across several states into early next week.

Overview

  • IMD issued a red alert for Noida and Ghaziabad after heavy morning showers, with a yellow alert in parts of Delhi for light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and lightning.
  • Waterlogging triggered major traffic jams on DND Flyway, Mathura Road, Vikas Marg, ISBT stretches, Geeta Colony and other corridors, as the Delhi Traffic Police flagged widespread congestion.
  • Delhi Metro’s Yellow Line ran with delays between Vishwavidyalaya and Central Secretariat during peak hours, leaving commuters stranded, while other lines operated normally.
  • Flight operations slowed at Delhi airport, where by late morning at least 146 departures and 30 arrivals were delayed, even as the airport advised passengers to check with airlines for updates.
  • The broader monsoon remained active: the Yamuna in Delhi crossed the danger mark, Uttarakhand reported a cloudburst and landslides with people missing, Himachal tallied extensive road and utility damage, and fresh alerts covered regions including Konkan/Mumbai and north Bengal.
