Recraft Raises $12M to Build AI Foundation Model for Graphic Design

AI design startup Recraft has raised $12 million in a Series A funding round led by Khosla Ventures and former GitHub CEO Nat Friedman, with the aim of building its own foundation model for generating and editing vector art, icons, 3D images, and illustrations.
Recraft's foundation model will use a pre-trained, deep-learning algorithm to offer a high degree of control and creativity to professional designers, differentiating it from open-source AI platforms like Stable Diffusion.
Recraft's platform, launched eight months ago, has already attracted over 300,000 users and is targeting the professional segment of brand-centric graphic designing.
With the new funding, Recraft plans to advance its use of machine learning and train its foundation model to generate even better style-consistent design elements, sophisticated imagery, and graphic designs.
Recraft's CEO, Anna Veronika, believes that AI is driving the future of the design industry and aims to influence its direction with the development of their foundation model.
