Record Traffic Jams Hit German Highways in October

North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) experienced over 16,000 hours of traffic jams in October 2024, marking a record high for the year.
The ADAC noted a 17% increase in the total length of traffic jams compared to October 2023, with over 16,700 individual traffic incidents reported.
Key highways affected in NRW include the A1, A3, A59, A46, and A42, with construction sites contributing to significant delays.
In Baden-Württemberg, traffic congestion during the autumn holidays increased by over 50% compared to the previous year, exacerbated by a public holiday and favorable weather conditions.
The ADAC recommends flexible work arrangements such as home office and carpooling to alleviate congestion, especially in areas like Cologne and the Kaiserberg interchange.
