Record Surge in Used Electric Car Sales
The UK sees a 57% increase in used electric vehicle purchases, marking a shift towards greener transport.
- The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) reported 53,423 used electric vehicles were sold between July and September 2024.
- Market share for pure electric vehicles rose from 1.8% to 2.7% year-on-year, driven by consumer demand.
- Sales of used hybrids and plug-in hybrids also increased, with rises of 35.8% and 29.0% respectively.
- Despite the growth in used car sales, new car registrations fell by 6% in October 2024 compared to the previous year.
