Record Surge in Used Electric Car Sales

The UK sees a 57% increase in used electric vehicle purchases, marking a shift towards greener transport.

The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) reported 53,423 used electric vehicles were sold between July and September 2024.
Market share for pure electric vehicles rose from 1.8% to 2.7% year-on-year, driven by consumer demand.
Sales of used hybrids and plug-in hybrids also increased, with rises of 35.8% and 29.0% respectively.
Despite the growth in used car sales, new car registrations fell by 6% in October 2024 compared to the previous year.
Concerns remain over charging infrastructure and battery health, but consumer interest in used electric vehicles is strong.
