Record Share of UPV/EHU Freshers Choose Euskera as First-Year Intake Nears Capacity

The public university details new campus projects and services starting this term ahead of next week’s official opening events.

Overview

  • Fifty-seven percent of new UPV/EHU students opted to study in Euskera, the highest share to date.
  • First-year enrollment stands at 8,751 with 38 places still open as three in four entrants secured their first-choice degree despite over 20,000 applications for fewer than 9,000 seats.
  • A total of 35,126 students are set to return across 106 undergraduate programs, including 16 dual and 15 double degrees.
  • Postgraduate intake continues with 2,141 new master’s students enrolled so far across an offer of 109 university master’s, 35 continuing education master’s, and 67 doctoral programs.
  • Works this term include safety upgrades at the Leioa library, the Plaza Mikel Laboa overhaul, a sports center operating tender, and fit-out for moving the social dentistry clinic to Bilbao’s La Panera, with a Gipuzkoa residence slated to start construction in 2026 and a Campus Mobility Lab launching in Vitoria this month.
