Overview

  • The government elevated the emergency level to maximum on July 17 and declared a national grave alert for torrential rains.
  • At least 12,921 people have been evacuated preventively across 86 districts in 14 provinces, with 4,638 remaining in temporary shelters due to structural damage.
  • Flooding and landslides have forced closures on six national highways, ten underpasses and 56 riverside roads, and halted services on the Gyeongbu, Honam and Gyeongjeon train lines.
  • Sancheong in Gyeongnam has recorded eight deaths and six missing, while other casualties and disappearances have been reported in Osan, Seosan, Dangjin and Gapyeong.
  • The Korea Meteorological Administration forecasts more torrential downpours of up to 50 millimeters per hour in mountainous areas of northern Gyeonggi and Gangwon accompanied by gusty winds and lightning.
