Record Heat Wave Scorches Beijing and Northern China

Beijing upgraded its hot weather warning to "red", the highest in its colour-coded alert system.
The official temperature in Beijing hit 40.3 degrees Celsius (104.54 F) on Friday.
Beijing experienced record-breaking temperatures above 41 degrees Celsius on June 22.
Heatwaves have also affected Tianjin, Hebei, and Shandong in northern and eastern China.
Authorities have taken measures to safeguard crops, ensure tourist safety, and maintain electrical cables during the heatwaves.
