Record Halloween Ambulance Demand in Dublin as Fire Calls Decline

Extra staffing plus call triage helped manage bonfires and fireworks, with rain and cleared stockpiles credited for fewer fires.

Overview

  • Dublin Fire Brigade recorded 516 emergency medical calls over the Halloween 24-hour period, the highest Halloween total in 21 years.
  • From midnight to midnight, the brigade handled 320 fire calls, including 276 classed as Halloween-related, with 1,042 total calls processed by control.
  • Crews responded to bonfires, bin and vehicle fires, e-bike blazes, fuel leaks, domestic fires and some flood-related incidents, plus a firework injury and three road collisions.
  • Officials deployed extra call-takers, fully staffed resources and a prioritisation system focusing first on incidents threatening life or property.
  • Northern Ireland’s fire service reported 53 incidents between 6pm and 1am, ten fewer than the same period in 2024, with several linked to bonfires and fireworks.
