RECARO Launches R4 Premium-Class Seat

ETSO certification for the Boeing 787, together with deliveries that began in June 2026, positions the new seat for passenger service later in 2026 and brings larger screens, better accessibility and airline customisation to premium cabins.

Overview

  • RECARO confirmed it has begun delivering the R4 to an unnamed customer in June 2026, and the company expects the seat to enter commercial service later in 2026.
  • The R4 is ETSO-certified for the Boeing 787 and RECARO says it is pursuing additional aircraft certifications required for wider installation.
  • Key passenger features include a 16-inch in-flight entertainment monitor, a six-way adjustable headrest with integrated neck support, side ambient lighting and privacy wings with integrated reading lights.
  • Operational and accessibility upgrades include a side console with dedicated PRM (Passengers with Reduced Mobility) access, an extra-wide single-plate tray table with a soft open/close mechanism and an integrated holder for smartphones and tablets.
  • RECARO pitches the R4 as the successor to its PL3530 (introduced in 2015), offering lighter-weight construction and multiple power and finish options so airlines can customise cabins and respond to growing demand for comfort, connectivity and accessible seating.
