Overview

  • Kalamatos Food GmbH has issued an ongoing recall for its 180 g “Oliven geschwärzt ohne Kern mit Knoblauch” jars bearing batch number 16062025 and a July 14, 2025 sell-by date.
  • The contaminated olives were sold through EDEKA, REWE, Bünting and Bela stores across eleven German federal states and have been pulled from shelves.
  • Consumers are urged not to eat the product and can return affected jars at any retailer for a full refund without needing a receipt.
  • Federal health agencies BVL, LGL and the Robert Koch-Institut have issued public warnings and are overseeing retailer compliance with the recall.
  • Authorities warn that Listeria monocytogenes can survive freezing and drying and may trigger symptoms from nausea and diarrhea to sepsis in pregnant women, children and immunocompromised individuals.
