Brittish Williams, a former cast member of the reality TV show 'Basketball Wives LA', was sentenced to four years in prison for committing multiple frauds, including tax fraud, bank fraud, insurance fraud, and three seperate pandemic-related fraud schemes, amounting to $564,000 worth of frauds.
Williams was found guilty and sentenced for 15 federal felonies: five counts of misuse of a Social Security number, four counts of bank fraud, three counts of making false statements to the IRS and three counts of wire fraud. These crimes spanned nearly a decade and persisted even after Williams' indictment.
Authorities charge that Williams illegally obtained Paycheck Protection Program loans meant to aid businesses affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. She also defrauded banks and credit card companies using false Social Security numbers and submitted fake medical bills to an insurance company.
In addition to her prison sentence, US District Judge Henry E. Autrey has ordered Williams to pay $565,000 in restitution and she will be on supervised release for five years after release from prison.
Despite her high-profile lifestyle showcased on 'Basketball Wives', her lawyer argued that the sentence was unfair as she was subjected to an increased prison term due to her celebrity status.
