React and React Native Move to New Linux Foundation–Hosted React Foundation

The move sets up vendor-neutral stewardship, paving the way for contributor-led technical governance now being designed.

Overview

  • React, React Native, and supporting projects such as JSX will transition from Meta to the newly formed React Foundation under the Linux Foundation.
  • The Foundation’s board launches with representatives from Amazon, Callstack, Expo, Meta, Microsoft, Software Mansion, and Vercel.
  • Seth Webster will serve as executive director, directing resources to support React’s development, community, and ecosystem.
  • The Foundation will maintain core infrastructure including GitHub, CI, and trademarks, organize React Conf, and fund ecosystem work through grants and programs.
  • Meta has committed a five-year partnership with over $3 million in funding and dedicated engineering support as the team develops an independent, contributor-led technical governance model, with details to be shared after community feedback.
