RCMP Unveils Extensive Security Plan for G7 Summit in Kananaskis

Livestreamed feeds from Calgary and Banff protest zones will ensure leaders see demonstrations without risking summit security.

Overview

  • The Integrated Safety and Security Group, led by the RCMP, is coordinating Canada’s largest domestic security operation for the June 15–17 summit.
  • Armoured vehicles, mobile command centres, drones, mounted police and bear traps are among the specialized tools on standby for worst-case scenarios.
  • Three Calgary and one Banff demonstration zones will feature live audio and video links to summit delegates for transparent protest monitoring.
  • Airspace restrictions covering a 30-nautical-mile radius around Kananaskis Village and 20 nautical miles around Calgary International Airport will be enforced from June 14 to 17.
  • Calgary Police Service, Alberta Sheriffs, conservation officers and Canadian Forces personnel will support security efforts with specialized training for mass arrests and detainee handling.
