RCMP Investigate Highway 60 Crash That Killed Two Chemawawin Pedestrians

Police report both drivers stayed at the scene, with no indications of speed or alcohol.

Overview

  • A 29-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman from Chemawawin Cree Nation were pronounced dead at the scene late Aug. 22.
  • The collision occurred around 11:50 p.m. on Highway 60 about 20 kilometres east of Highway 10 near The Pas.
  • Investigators say the pair exited an eastbound vehicle driven by a 30-year-old from Chemawawin and were walking east with that vehicle following.
  • A westbound vehicle driven by a 64-year-old man from The Pas struck the pedestrians, and no other injuries were reported.
  • RCMP’s Criminal Collision Investigation Team and a forensic collision reconstructionist are examining the crash, and no charges have been reported.
