RCMP Fires Coquitlam Constable Over Vulgar Messages in Group Chats

An RCMP adjudicator deemed the officer's vulgar messages discreditable, prompting immediate dismissal.

Overview

  • Conduct adjudicator Louise Morel said Const. Mersad Mesbah "put aside" his oath and abandoned core RCMP values.
  • Morel found 34 comments over two and a half years, most on police mobile computers, to be discourteous, discreditable or both.
  • The messages came to light after a 2021 complaint alleging sexist, racist and harassing remarks about a colleague, other officers and members of the public.
  • Mesbah has been suspended with pay since July 2021, a span the RCMP conduct authority representative noted exceeded his active service time.
  • Mesbah expressed remorse and said he was venting, but Morel said the misconduct outweighed his record; former constable Ian Solven resigned in December and Const. Philip Dick's proceedings conclude next month.
