Overview

  • Effective May 1, 2025, the Reserve Bank of India has increased the maximum ATM transaction fee to ₹23, up from ₹21, for transactions exceeding free monthly limits.
  • Customers are entitled to five free transactions per month at their own bank’s ATMs and three free at other banks in metro areas (five in non-metro areas).
  • The new fee structure applies uniformly to commercial banks, regional rural banks, co-operative banks, and white-label ATM operators.
  • ATM interchange fees remain unchanged at ₹19 for financial transactions and ₹7 for non-financial transactions, as determined by ATM networks.
  • The fee hike, proposed by NPCI and white-label ATM operators, addresses rising operational costs, encouraging customers to use home-bank ATMs or digital payments to avoid additional charges.
