Overview

• Bigge, who was not in the starting lineup due to an existing injury, was stationed in his team’s on-deck circle when the foul ball struck his face at about 170 km/h.
• The mis-hit came off Adley Rutschman’s bat for the Baltimore Orioles, sending the ball into the reserve area where Bigge was positioned.
• Medical staff attended to Bigge for several minutes on the field before he signaled a thumbs-up to fans and was placed on a stretcher.
• He never lost consciousness and has been admitted to a Tampa hospital for further examination as doctors work to determine the full extent of his injuries.
