Overview

  • He appeared in five games this season, giving up 10 earned runs, nine hits and six walks in 7⅓ innings before being designated for assignment on June 8.
  • Whitley made his major league debut in 2024, allowing no earned runs over 3⅓ innings in three relief appearances.
  • His career has been hampered by significant injuries, including Tommy John surgery in 2021 and a left knee bone bruise that sidelined him this spring.
  • In 117 minor league outings (65 starts), he went 17–20 with a 4.75 ERA over 306⅔ innings while striking out 421 batters and issuing 160 walks.
  • Houston selected him 17th overall in the 2016 draft out of San Antonio and signed him with a $3.148 million bonus.
