Ravana Effigy Torched in Bhopal Before Dussehra Ceremony as Police Open Probe

Organisers plan to replace the effigy and proceed with the evening Dussehra event.

  • Two unidentified people set the effigy on fire around 6 a.m. in Bagh Mugalia, Bhopal, in an incident captured in a viral video.
  • Witnesses said a man and a woman, reportedly intoxicated, fled in a red car that lacked a registration plate after igniting the structure.
  • A complaint was submitted at Misrod police station and Assistant Commissioner of Police Rajnish Kashyap said no FIR has been registered yet.
  • Organisers and ward corporator Jitendra Shukla said they provided video footage to police and ordered a replacement effigy.
  • The Atal Dussehra Utsav Committee had installed large effigies of Ravana, Kumbhakarna and Meghnada at Misrod Ground the previous night.
