Raspberry Pi 500+ Launches at $200 With 16GB RAM, NVMe SSD and Mechanical Keyboard

Engineers reworked the 500 platform through multiple PCB revisions to add a serviceable NVMe bay plus a low-profile mechanical keyboard.

Overview

  • The all-in-one keyboard PC is on sale now directly from Raspberry Pi and through retailers, with a $220 Desktop Kit that adds a mouse, 27W USB-C power supply, a 2m micro HDMI cable, and a beginner’s guide.
  • Built on the Raspberry Pi 5 platform, the system features a 2.4GHz quad-core Arm Cortex-A76 CPU, dual 4K display output, and dual-band Wi‑Fi.
  • An internal M.2 socket comes pre-fitted with a 256GB Raspberry Pi SSD with Raspberry Pi OS, accepts any 2280-format M.2 board, and includes a tool for opening the case.
  • The keyboard uses Gateron KS-33 Blue switches with individually addressable RGB, runs an RP2040 controller with QMK, supports most aftermarket keycap sets, and ships with a key puller.
  • Raspberry Pi cites strong community demand for mechanical keys, NVMe storage, and more memory, and notes development involved ten factory trips to China, six PCB revisions, and a batch with the wrong Return key.
