Overview

  • A Middlesex County jury on June 9 convicted 29-year-old Rashid Ali Bynum of first-degree murder and unlawful weapons possession for the Feb. 1, 2023 shooting of Eunice Dwumfour.
  • Dwumfour, 30, was fatally shot 14 times while seated in her Nissan SUV outside her Sayreville home and her vehicle rolled into parked cars after the ambush.
  • Prosecutors established that Bynum knew Dwumfour through her church congregation, where she had served as his pastor around 2018, and cell phone data placed him at the scene.
  • Court records show a history of fraud, forgery, theft and previous firearms convictions dating back to 2013, including a 2015 probation sentence for illegally carrying a concealed weapon.
  • Superior Court Judge Joseph Paone set Bynum’s sentencing for August 18, when he faces 30 years to life in prison and his attorney has signaled plans to appeal.
