Raptors Elevate GM Bobby Webster to Head Basketball Operations, Will Not Hire President

MLSE closed its outside search to back Webster's multi-year plan for a playoff push.

Overview

  • Toronto announced a new contract Monday and said Webster will continue as general manager while leading basketball operations.
  • MLSE CEO Keith Pelley said a comprehensive review confirmed the right choice was in-house and pledged time and support for Webster's vision.
  • The organization had enlisted CAA Executive Search and interviewed external candidates, including Chad Buchanan, Kevin Pritchard, Marc Eversley, Dwane Casey and Monte McNair.
  • Webster, Ujiri’s first hire in 2013, is entering his ninth season as GM and his 21st year working in the NBA after earlier roles in the league office.
  • The Raptors went 30-52 last season, missing the postseason for a third straight year, with a core of Scottie Barnes, Brandon Ingram, RJ Barrett, Jakob Poeltl and Immanuel Quickley.
