- Rapido received a five-year licence from the Karnataka State Transport Authority on Thursday, giving the platform formal approval to operate cab services in the state through August 2031.
- The licence was issued to Roppen Transportation Services Private Limited under the Karnataka On-Demand Transportation Technology Aggregators Rules, 2016, placing Rapido inside the state’s existing regulator framework.
- The company has been included in the Karnataka Urban Mobility Mission, a formal role that the government says will let Rapido coordinate with officials on commuter access, safety standards and technology integration.
- Rapido says it operates in 21 Karnataka cities and supports roughly 3.14 lakh captains and more than 2.04 crore registered customers, with over 69 lakh riders in the state having used its cab service.
- Officials and Rapido executives say the licence should provide continuity for drivers and passengers, enable measured expansion within rules, and shape how private platforms contribute to Karnataka’s urban transport planning.
