Rape Tops Criminal Convictions in France for 2023, Justice Report Reveals

A Ministry of Justice report highlights that 62% of criminal convictions last year were for rape, with aggravating circumstances in most cases.

  • A total of 550,000 convictions were issued in 2023, addressing 900,000 infractions, with criminal offenses accounting for only 0.3% of all cases.
  • Traffic-related offenses made up 36% of all misdemeanors, including drunk driving and driving without a license.
  • Nearly 30,000 convictions involved minors, with rape also being the leading criminal offense among this group.
