Randy Moffitt, Former Giants Reliever and Billie Jean King's Brother, Dies at 76

A 1970 first-round pick, he became a Giants bullpen mainstay who later earned a place on the club’s Wall of Fame.

Overview

  • Moffitt died Thursday in Long Beach, California, after an extended illness, according to a family representative.
  • He pitched 12 MLB seasons, including 10 with the San Francisco Giants before one-year stints with the Astros and Blue Jays.
  • He finished with a 43–52 record, 96 saves, and a 3.65 ERA in 534 appearances, all but one in relief.
  • He was inducted into Long Beach State’s Athletics Hall of Fame in 1986 and added to the Giants Wall of Fame in 2008.
  • He is survived by daughters Miranda Harrah and Alysha Gosse, four grandchildren, and his sister Billie Jean King and her wife, Ilana Kloss, as teams and the USTA offered condolences.
