Overview
- The president will head South Africa’s delegation to the UN General Assembly in New York from September 23 to 29 and deliver his General Debate address on Tuesday, September 23.
- His agenda centers on robust multilateralism, peaceful conflict resolution, human rights and comprehensive UN Security Council reform, with attention to Gaza, the Eastern DRC, the Sudans and Ukraine.
- Ramaphosa will take part in the inaugural Biennial Summit for a Sustainable, Inclusive and Resilient Global Economy, the G20 foreign ministers’ meeting, and a high-level session on a two-state solution for Israel and Palestine.
- Economic diplomacy features prominently, with trade and investment discussions planned with leading US business figures and a DTIC–South African Consulate investor roundtable targeting infrastructure, digital innovation, energy and agriculture.
- The delegation includes ministers Ronald Lamola, Parks Tau, Sindisiwe Chukunga, Dion George, Maropene Ramokgopa, Aaron Motsoaledi and deputy minister Mondli Gungubele, with Lamola and Tau already in the US for preparatory talks.
