Overview
- During a state visit to Jakarta on 22 October, President Cyril Ramaphosa held a welcome ceremony, a tête-à-tête and ministerial talks with President Prabowo Subianto at the Merdeka Presidential Palace.
- He urged deeper Indonesian participation in BRICS economic structures and highlighted South Africa as a base for Indonesian trade and investment across Africa.
- He promoted the African Continental Free Trade Area as a gateway to a market of over 1.4 billion people and called for stronger South–South trade ties in response to global trade tensions.
- A South Africa–Indonesia Business Forum held on 21 October brought South African companies and Indonesian counterparts together to pursue new commercial partnerships.
- He noted Indonesia’s expected attendance at the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg and said talks also covered multilateral cooperation and efforts to end the conflict in Gaza, before he departs for a Vietnam state visit and a Malaysia stop for the ASEAN and East Asia Summits.
