Overview
- President Cyril Ramaphosa announced on Saturday, September 19, 2026, that the commission’s final report deadline has been moved from 16 November 2026 to 25 January 2027.
- The Presidency and the commission say the extension is final and is meant to allow the panel to process additional evidence and receive testimony from experts.
- The Madlanga Commission has held public hearings since 17 September 2025 and has heard evidence from more than 100 witnesses during its inquiry into criminal infiltration and political interference.
- Two interim reports have already prompted resignations and dismissals and recommended investigations of named officers, including calls to probe an alleged off‑the‑books Crime Intelligence operation.
- The commission will use the extra weeks to finish hearings and write its final report and its findings could lead to disciplinary action, criminal charges, and deeper scrutiny of police and intelligence practices.
