Overview

  • President Cyril Ramaphosa signed Proclamation 316 of 2026 authorising the SIU to investigate procurement, payments and possible unlawful expenditure linked to UIF training contracts administered with PSIRA.
  • The probe covers conduct from 1 January 2019 to 3 June 2026 and allows investigators to look further back if those events are connected to the core allegations.
  • The SIU can bring civil court actions to set aside contracts and recover state funds and will refer any evidence of criminal conduct to the National Prosecuting Authority for possible prosecution.
  • Minister Nomakhosazana Meth has welcomed the investigation and pledged full cooperation from the Department of Employment and Labour, while PSIRA says it asked the SIU to investigate and has begun internal disciplinary and recovery steps.
