Overview

  • On July 19, Harda observed an almost complete bandh as Karni Sena-led protesters held a peaceful Nyay Yatra to demand the removal of Superintendent Abhinav Chouksey and District Collector Siddharth Jain.
  • The statewide mobilization has spread to Ratlam, Khandwa, Shajapur and Indore, where Rajput community rallies and memorandums call for dismissal of local police officers linked to the Harda incident.
  • The protests follow allegations that police used tear gas, water cannons and lathi charges on activists at the Rajput hostel on July 13, detaining around 50 participants.
  • Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has ordered an administrative inquiry into the Harda police actions, while Congress leaders Ramkishore Dogne and Digvijaya Singh are pushing for a judicial probe.
  • Protesters have warned of intensified agitation if the officials are not relieved of duty and legal redress is not provided to detained activists.
