Rajnath Singh to Review DPSUs on Nov. 10 as MoD Projects Doubling of R&D Spend

Fresh five-year R&D targets signal a push for indigenisation, supported by stronger 2024–25 results.

Overview

  • The defence minister will conduct the annual review of 16 DPSUs in New Delhi on November 10, with the ministry projecting Rs 32,766 crore in R&D outlays over the next five years.
  • Over the past decade, DPSUs invested Rs 30,952 crore in R&D, with the new phase widening responsibility beyond HAL, BEL and BDL.
  • The seven corporatised ordnance-factory firms plan more than Rs 3,000 crore for R&D over five years, while defence shipyards target over Rs 1,300 crore.
  • The meeting will release a 10-year D&D/R&D compilation, a five-year plan for DPSUs, and HAL’s new R&D Manual aimed at faster, flexible, risk-assessed projects.
  • A first consolidated renewable-energy report titled Swayam will be unveiled, as 2024–25 performance reached Rs 1.08 lakh crore in turnover, Rs 20,021 crore in profit after tax, and a 51% rise in exports.
