Rajnath Singh to Commission ICG Pollution-Control Ship Samudra Pratap on Jan. 5

Built in Goa, the new ship bolsters maritime environmental response through indigenous systems with added safety capability.

Overview

  • The commissioning will be held at Goa Shipyard Limited in Vasco, South Goa, with Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and ICG Director General Paramesh Sivamani attending.
  • Samudra Pratap is the first of two dedicated pollution control vessels for the Indian Coast Guard, built by Goa Shipyard with more than 60% indigenous content.
  • The vessel measures 114.5 metres, displaces about 4,200 tonnes, can exceed 22 knots, and has an endurance of roughly 6,000 nautical miles.
  • Its equipment includes advanced oil‑spill detection and recovery systems capable of handling viscous pollutants, onboard contaminant analysis, and separation of oil from polluted water for operations across the EEZ and beyond.
  • The ship fields a 30mm CRN‑91 and two 12.7mm remote‑controlled guns, integrates modern bridge and platform management with a high‑capacity external firefighting system, and will be based at the Coast Guard’s Kochi station.
