Rajnath Singh Lays Foundation Stone for ₹1,800 Crore BRAHMA Rail Hub in Madhya Pradesh

The defence-grade production centre is expected to start coach rollouts by mid-2026 with a goal of exceeding 1,000 annual units by 2030

Overview

  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh laid the foundation stone at Umaria village in Raisen district with Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on site and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw joining virtually.
  • The 148-acre BRAHMA hub backed by Bharat Earth Movers Limited will manufacture Vande Bharat, Amrit Bharat and metro coaches using defence-grade engineering.
  • Phase one planning is under way to complete construction by mid-2026 and launch an initial output of 125–200 coaches per year that could scale to over 1,000 within five years.
  • The project is expected to generate nearly 5,000 direct and indirect jobs and spur growth among local suppliers of bogies, interiors and related components.
  • The facility embodies Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat goals by reducing reliance on imported rolling stock and demonstrating defence-civil convergence.
